It all begins in 1961. Grandad Sepp buys a stable. In the centre of the village square in Maria Alm. And in the midst of the attention, the business and the observation of the people. Together with his wife Franzi, he harbours conscious visions. Convert the stable into an inn, build a few rooms to rent out and trust in the summer resort.
This caused the locals to shake their heads, laugh and frown. At the time, nobody believed that guests would holiday in a village with alpine pastures, a church and mountains and no mountain railway. Grandad Sepp not only showed courage in those years. His pioneering spirit, his willingness to develop a thick skin and his imagination laid the foundations for the family history. And a whole collection.
Together with grandma Franzi and daughter Gertrude, grandpa Sepp turns the Gasthof eder into a place for locals, family and guests. Trude works with them. The first three births, the early death of her husband Josef Schwaiger from leukaemia and all the work can’t stop her. The stories in the house, the time spent with guests and her children strengthen her back.
Meals are eaten in the parlour, homework is done at the regulars’ table and life takes place in the middle of the village. The three children Josef, Thomas and Theresia are right in the middle of the action and grow up together as hosts. Fabian and Carola reunite the family a few years later and complete Gertrude and her Andi. Five children and even more fun.
Together, the values of lifeblood, creativity, passion, courage, power, foresight and solidarity are put into practice. Using the example of Grandpa Sepp, Grandma Franzi and Mum Gertrude. Appreciating what already exists, setting out for something new and trusting each other. Not just at Christmas. Every day of the year. But always see what Mum says first.
After completing his studies in tourism management, Josef “Sepp” takes over the family business. And marries his Tanja on top of that. Together they build the Hotel SEPP. In the year their son Seppi was born. And as a tribute to all the Sepp’n in the family. And start a new era in the third generation. The Eder Collection.
Today, the Eder Collection consists of six establishments. Lifestyle Hotel eder, Adults Only Hotel SEPP, Family Hotel EdeR FriDa, TOM Almhütte, Maria&Josef Consepp Store and Apartments am Naturteich. And these combine the old with the new, village life with extravagance, lifestyle with tradition and coolness with zeitgeist. And especially people with each other.
