From the village square to the world: Why sustainability is a family matter for us.
Sustainable?
Yes, please!
We make sustainability measurable. 100% renewable energy in all our hotels is the standard for us, not the exception. With the Austrian Ecolabel and the EU Ecolabel under our belt, we offer you the seal of approval for your lifestyle holiday or your next green meeting. Short distances for our products, secure jobs for our team, for a tourism that has a future. For us, sustainability means one thing above all: working together. It’s about our “local heroes”, the farmers and producers who supply us every day. It’s about our team, who find a real home through year-round jobs. And it’s about you, so that you can still enjoy the Hochkönig with the same good feeling in years to come.
Work that feels like home
For us, sustainability is also a family matter. We rely on year-round jobs instead of seasonal hectic – at the family hotel EdeR FriDa, for example, this is an impressive 86%! With our in-house “Eder Factory”, we support our team with further training and digital tools. And because young people are our future on the Hochkönig, we have set ourselves the goal of increasing the number of our apprentices from 5 to 15. Working for us means: fair conditions, team spirit and already 43% strong female managers.
Car off, holiday on
Your contribution to environmental protection starts with your journey. It’s best to come by train – we will be happy to organise your shuttle from the train station directly to the hotel. Once you arrive, you can leave your car in the village centre. With the hiking bus, ski bus, gondola and e-bikes, you are perfectly connected to the village square. Supermarket, doctor and pharmacy? All just around the corner. And if you do want to drive electrically, our e-charging stations are already waiting for you.
Smart power for hot saunas
We love it hot in the sauna, but cool for the climate. That’s why we use 100% renewable electricity and heat energy from district heating in all our facilities. We actively reduce energy and water consumption with smart features such as PV systems, heat recovery and resource-saving flow limiters (e.g. in the eder and FriDa washbasins). The result? Our CO2 footprint of 9.6 to 13.6 kg per overnight stay is almost 75% below the industry benchmark*.

Regional enjoyment without compromise
As many as 47% of our suppliers come from a radius of less than 100 kilometres. Our culinary highlight is our “Local Heroes” days: once a week, we serve everything from breakfast to dinner 100% locally sourced*. We use organic eggs from happy chickens, fair trade coffee, homemade spreads instead of plastic waste and creative dishes (veggie & regional) on the menu. To avoid food waste, we now even use smart AI to help us plan exact quantities.

There for Maria Alm 365 days a year
The Eder Collection is not a UFO that has landed in the village. We are deeply rooted in Maria Alm and want to be a reliable partner for the region 365 days a year. By purchasing from local partners, we promote value creation right on our doorstep. We are also building educational partnerships with schools and pooling our social commitment to actively give something back to our home on the Steinernes Meer.
Paperless happiness
As much as we love our traditions, we have long since arrived in the future when it comes to paperwork. We optimise our processes and rely on paperless administration. This saves valuable resources and also supports our certification for “Green Meetings” in the MICE sector. It also makes everything easier for you as a guest: our Eder Collection app and Guestnet provide you with everything digitally on your smartphone, from table reservations to guest newspapers.
Certificates & Promises
Tested standards
Austrian Ecolabel: State-approved village child
This seal is the official promise of the Federal Ministry (BMK) that we mean business. From the cleaning chemicals to the origin of our food and the motivation of our team, everything is put through its paces. The best thing for you: it’s your ticket to having your meeting with us officially certified as a “Green Meeting”.
EU Ecolabel: International standard
Ideal for our international guests and partners: the EU Ecolabel recognises companies that are among the European leaders in energy efficiency and waste prevention. It recognises tourist accommodation that fulfils strict environmental criteria – for example in terms of energy efficiency, waste avoidance, water consumption and the use of certain materials. A circular economy instead of a throwaway mentality – measurable and transparent.
